- Madder: root must make into powder
- Boil in K2CO3 --> solution dye
- Pigment: particles through precipitation with potash alum
- Cloth as substrate for pigment
- Lake: from lac --> deep red pigment
- Starting material: heterogeneous mix of twig-like and red/orange fragments
- After grinding: COARSE orange powder, some variance in powder/chunk sizes
- Couldn't transfer all over because powder was very fine --> H2O volume doesn't need to be exact
- Soak in H2O --> H2O turns yellow-ish

- Nice vein-like patterns in the filter paper
- Very brittle from the paper but comes off very powder like with some chunks
- Mix with egg yolk
- Egg will dry very fast and hard, doesn't react to light --> will stiffen fast, small little strokes/cross hatching necessary; lasts longer
- As painting: sticky, so as it dries it gets harder to paint as the brush sticks more to the square
- Before yolk: brick powder like; after: BBQ sauce like color; added some water later on to make less chunky
- Tried painting another layer in the other direction: more definition to layer
- Donna is an impressionist
